An
indirect high-performance liquid chromatographic method is developed for the
enantioseparation of cis- and trans-2-cyanocyclopentanol and -cyclohexanol.
The racemic cis-(1S,2S and 1R,2R)- or trans-(1S,2R and 1R,2S)-2-cyanocycloalkanols
are converted to their diastereomers formed with (S)-(+)- or (R)-()-a-methoxy-a-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetyl
chloride. The diastereomers are separated on a reversed-phase column, and the
conditions of derivatization and HPLC analysis are optimized.
