Injection of a Sample by Means of Microneedles Followed by
Capillary Gas Chromatography
B. Tirillini and A.M. Stoppini
A new gas chromatographic injection system is proposed for sampling the liquid contents of very small natural structures (less than 0.01 µL). Using a normal syringe, glass microneedles, filled with a sample, are injected into the injector. An etched trap that allows the vapor to pass but not the microneedles is inserted into the liner. In order to assure a negligible loss of sample during the loading of the glass microneedle, the sample must be transferred to the syringe and injected into the column in less than a minute. This method does not affect peak asymmetry or the composition of the mixture analyzed.
